Statement of Ilyse Hogue, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America:

“We are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Sen. Frank Lautenberg. He was a dedicated champion of a woman’s right to choose, and he worked tirelessly to protect and expand these rights. From his advocacy for commonsense sex-ed policies to expanding the reproductive rights of women in the military and the Peace Corps, Sen. Lautenberg was a lifelong leader and partner in the fight.

“Sen. Lautenberg was one of our guiding lights in Congress. His impressive legacy will be measured in the success of the generations of American women who have had more opportunities and greater freedom because of his three decades of service. He will be greatly missed by everyone whose work he touched.”

NARAL Pro-Choice America and its network of state affiliates are dedicated to protecting and expanding reproductive freedom for all Americans. NARAL works to guarantee that every woman has the right to make personal decisions regarding the full range of reproductive choices, including preventing unintended pregnancy, bearing healthy children, and choosing legal abortion. In recognition of its work defending our constitutional right to choose, Fortune Magazine described NARAL as “one of the top 10 advocacy groups in America.”
