WASHINGTON, DC — Statement from NARAL Pro-Choice America President Ilyse Hogue on Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s calling another special session:
“Texas Gov. Rick Perry is clearly tone deaf to the thousands of concerned Texans who stayed up all night and inspired a national outcry for abortion rights. Despite the heroic efforts of pro-choice state senators led by sen. Wendy Davis and thousands of pro-choice activists, Gov. Perry has wasted no time in calling a special session to push through his extreme anti-choice agenda.
“He will now single-handedly put the people of Texas through another arduous special session to score a personal victory while tens of thousands of Texas women pay the price. His actions are a waste and a shame.
“NARAL Pro-Choice America members will hold Gov. Perry and his anti-choice allies accountable for their ill-advised agenda. We, along with our affiliate, NARAL Pro-Choice Texas, will remain vigilant in the fight to keep meddling politicians out of our private health decisions.”
