Today, NARAL Pro-Choice America PAC released a statement from NARAL Pro-Choice America president Ilyse Hogue about its recent endorsement of John Walsh for U.S. Senate:
“John Walsh has an impeccable record of fully supporting a woman’s right to decide for herself when and how to start a family. Not all Democrats, including Walsh’s primary opponent John Bohlinger, trust women to make these private medical decisions and can represent the majority of voters that want these basic constitutional rights and privacies upheld and protected.
“Bohlinger has voted on a number of measures that would restrict or outlaw abortion, even voting against exceptions to preserve the health and life of the woman. He has consistently maintained an anti-choice record that mirrors the values of both Republican candidates in this race. John Walsh believes, as does the majority of Americans, that politicians should trust women to make their own decisions and stop interfering in their private medical decisions.”
Walsh happily accepted the PAC’s endorsement and had this to say:
“I’m proud to earn the endorsement of NARAL Pro-Choice America PAC because there is so much at stake in this year’s election for Montana women and the fundamental right of choice,” Walsh said. “Working together with Montanans who know that the government has no business in private health care decisions, we will never back down from fighting Washington politicians who want to deny women and families a fundamental right.”
Maggie Moran, executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice Montana, also expressed support for Walsh’s re-election:
“Senator Walsh not only understands the issues of reproductive justice, but he will be a strong advocate for women, both in Montana and across the nation. He has shown leadership in his tenure as Lt. Governor in Montana and we are proud to stand beside him as he makes his run for US Senate. The issues women in Montana face—access to contraceptives and abortion, pay inequity, and violence—are the same ones that all women across the nation come face to face with on a daily basis. Senator Walsh has been and will continue to be a strong voice empowering women to make personal, private decisions.”
NARAL Pro-Choice America has more than 12,000 member activists in Montana.
