NARAL on Boggs Vote Postponement by Senate Judiciary Committee

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 11, 2014

Today, Sen. Leahy announced that the Judiciary Committee was moving forward on the confirmation process for Georgia judicial nominees with the notable exclusion of Michael Boggs.

Said NARAL Pro-Choice America President Ilyse Hogue:

“Michael Boggs not getting a vote this week in the Senate Judiciary Committee reaffirms his questionable record and inconsistent statements. As we have said all along, he has demonstrated a frightening pattern of disregarding civil rights and the fundamental equality of women and LGBT people that should disqualify him for a lifetime appointment to the federal bench. He still needs to answer for this history, the same history he campaigned on when he was running to be a judge. We will continue our efforts to make sure the committee, the full Senate, and the public are aware of Boggs’ past and to defeat his confirmation.”

NARAL Pro-Choice America and its network of state affiliates are dedicated to protecting and expanding reproductive freedom for all Americans. NARAL works to guarantee that every woman has the right to make personal decisions regarding the full range of reproductive choices, including preventing unintended pregnancy, bearing healthy children, and choosing legal abortion. In recognition of its work defending our constitutional right to choose, Fortune Magazine described NARAL as “one of the top 10 advocacy groups in America.”
