NARAL Pro-Choice America on Sen. Chuck Schumer’s Statement to Oppose Michael Boggs

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 17, 2016

This evening, in a media interview from leading progressive conference Netroots Nation, Sen. Charles Schumer became the tenth senator and the third member of the Judiciary Committee to confirm he will vote no on the nomination of Michael Boggs to the federal bench.

Said Ilyse Hogue, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America:

“We applaud Sen. Schumer for adding his voice to the growing chorus saying that Michael Boggs is not fit to serve on the federal bench. He joins nine other senators and tens of thousands of Americans who believe that Boggs’ inability to answer for his dismal record on reproductive, civil and LGBT rights makes him unqualified to serve. Our judicial branch is too important to upholding the rights of all to allow Boggs to rule on issues for which he has expressed a deep bias.

“NARAL Pro-Choice America members will continue to sound the alarm bell with the 46 other organizations that defend the constitutional rights of all Americans and urge a no vote on Boggs.”

NARAL Pro-Choice America and its network of state affiliates are dedicated to protecting and expanding reproductive freedom for all Americans. NARAL works to guarantee that every woman has the right to make personal decisions regarding the full range of reproductive choices, including preventing unintended pregnancy, bearing healthy children, and choosing legal abortion. In recognition of its work defending our constitutional right to choose, Fortune Magazine described NARAL as “one of the top 10 advocacy groups in America.”
