Today, the Montana Democratic Party chose Amanda Curtis as the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate. NARAL Pro-Choice America and NARAL Pro-Choice Montana released the following statement:
“We’re glad the Democratic Party listened to the hundreds of NARAL members in Montana who urged them to choose a candidate who represents their state’s values and selected Amanda Curtis as the nominee. Montana has a history of electing pro-choice U.S. Senators, like Max Baucus and Jon Tester, who consistently represents the state’s values of keeping private medical decisions where they belong—between women and their families. Choosing Curtis answers an urgent call from men and women who share this value and who demand a representative who will fight for the comprehensive health care to which they are entitled.”
Earlier this week, NARAL Pro-Choice Montana delivered hundreds of signatures from state activists who signed the organization’s petition urging the state Democratic Party to select a pro-choice candidate. NARAL Pro-Choice Montana Executive Director, Maggie Moran, had this say:
“The Montana Democratic Party has made a strong choice in nominating Amanda Curtis as the next Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate. Curtis has demonstrated a commitment to women’s health and personal privacy at the state level. She has a 100% pro-choice voting record with NARAL Pro-Choice Montana, and we look forward to a campaign that puts health above politics. Women will make the difference in this election, and today’s decision demonstrates that the Montana Democratic Party recognizes and respects this fact.”
