Today, NARAL Pro-Choice America released its annual report Who Decides? The Status of Women’s Reproductive Rights in the United States, in which states are graded based on the availability and quality of women’s reproductive health care. In 2014, California received an “A+” and ranked 1st in the nation for its ability to provide those services. California enacted more pro-choice legislation than any other state in 2014, with three measures.

“NARAL Pro-Choice California is proud of our progress in 2014 and proud that the state leads the nation in women’s reproductive health-care,” said Amy Everitt, executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice California. “From strengthening contraceptive coverage to protecting against clinic violence, it’s clear that California cares about a woman’s right to choose and our pro-choice state legislature has made it a priority.”
California enacted more pro-choice legislation than any other state in 2014, including a policy guaranteeing that all insurance plans cover abortion services, and the state also enacted a measure strengthening the ACA’s contraceptive-coverage policy to ensure that health plans cover all FDA-approved contraceptive products without a copay.
“California’s stellar 2014 record, defending women’s rights where they come under attack and enacting more pro-choice legislation that any other state, is an example for the nation,” said Ilyse Hogue, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America. “When our reproductive rights are recognized and unobstructed, from strengthening contraceptive coverage to improving workplace protections for pregnant women, the country can advance on the agenda of progress that American families need.”
