Today, on the 43rd anniversary of Roe v. Wade, NARAL Pro-Choice America is encouraging voters to stand up for reproductive rights and urging the Supreme Court to once again affirm these rights this year. By striking down a Texas law that places medically unnecessary and burdensome restrictions on abortion providers in Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt, the Court could stop the greatest threat to women’s reproductive freedom since Roe v. Wade, affecting 44 states and the District of Columbia.

Said Ilyse Hogue, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America:
“Today our nation marks the anniversary of a landmark moment in the movement to empower women to make our own choices about our lives without anyone standing in our way. Yet, at few points in the last forty-three years has this right been under more attack than it is today.
“The anti-choice movement, on display marching today in DC, is not the majority in this country—opposing abortion rights as well as access to sex education and contraception. 7 in 10 Americans support our rights to safe and legal abortion. And we will not be silenced by a small but vocal minority.
“This year, we expect the Supreme Court to stand up and say that state laws should not be used to keep women from accessing their right to reproductive care, including abortion. The last thing we need is a rubber stamp on the erosion of reproductive rights until they become rights in theory only—inaccessible to millions of American women because of their income level or zipcode.
“At NARAL, we will continue to fight everyday to ensure the rights guaranteed by the Court in Roe are not stripped away by the anti-choice movement in this country and to elect true champions of women to make choice real for all.”
