Statement of Ilyse Hogue, President of NARAL Pro-Choice America:
“The fifth circuit’s decision in Louisiana is just the latest aspect of the silent crisis we face in this country as clinics shutter and abortion is put out of reach for too many women. With this decision, three of the four clinics in Louisiana will be forced to close it’s doors to the women and families who need them most. As politicians who see women’s ascendance and empowerment as a threat use TRAP laws to undermine women’s rights, NARAL will be organizing and mobilizing to reverse the trend and call out these bad actors.
“This circuit court decision just underscores how critical the Supreme Court case next Wednesday on Texas’ TRAP law – HB 2 – is to the future of reproductive freedom in this country. Roe v. Wade is settled law, 7 in 10 Americans support legal abortion, and it’s time for the laws of the land to truly reflect the will of the people.”
