California Attorney General Endorsed By NARAL Pro-Choice America PAC

For the first open Senate race in California in more than two decades, NARAL Pro-Choice America PAC today announced its endorsement of Attorney General Kamala Harris.

“Kamala Harris has been a champion for reproductive freedom and a relentless fighter when it comes to empowering women and families to achieve success,” said Ilyse Hogue, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America. “We are proud to stand with Kamala because she has always been at the forefront of efforts to defend and expand access to safe and legal abortion care and has pushed back against attempts to limit Californians’ right to accurate health information. Kamala understands that America is stronger when all of us—men and women—are empowered to make decisions about our own bodies.”

“With reproductive freedom under attack, we need more than an ally. We need a champion, and Kamala Harris is that champion,” said Amy Everitt, state director of NARAL Pro-Choice California. “She has never hesitated to stand up for reproductive freedom, whether she’s working to defeat anti-choice ballot initiatives or doggedly defending the pro-woman Reproductive FACT Act as attorney general.”

California Attorney General Kamala Harris has been an unflinching supporter of reproductive freedom her entire career. As a newly-elected district attorney, she helped spearhead the opposition to the parental notification ballot initiative as the Bay Area Regional Chair for the No on 73 campaign. For her leadership defending reproductive rights, she was awarded the Champion of Choice Award by NARAL Pro-Choice California. As attorney general, she has worked to uphold standards of care for abortion services when hospitals undergo mergers. She joined NARAL Pro-Choice California as a sponsor of the Reproductive FACT Act, the nation’s first statewide bill taking on the manipulative tactics of anti-choice crisis pregnancy centers, which went into effect on January 1, 2016. When elected attorney general, Harris made history as the first woman, first African American, and first Asian American to serve as California’s top law-enforcement official.
