Proposal to Cover 12-Month Supply of Contraception Empowers Women
NARAL Pro-Choice America today urged Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin to stand up for women and families by signing H 620 to expand contraceptive access for citizens across the state. The bill requires insurance companies to cover up to 12 months of contraception dispensed at once, which research shows increases consistent and correct usage. The proposal builds on the progress made by the Affordable Care Act, the nation’s health care law, which for the first time guarantees that insurance companies across the nation cover contraception.
In a letter to the Vermont Governor, NARAL Pro-Choice America President Ilyse Hogue commended the Vermont legislature for taking steps to expand contraceptive access and encouraged the governor to sign the bill:
“As we know, use of contraception is critical to reducing the number of unintended pregnancies and the need for abortion,” wrote Ilyse Hogue, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America. “At a time when family-planning services have been under attack across the country, we applaud Vermont’s efforts to lead the way in improving access to this vital health-care service.”
