Today, NARAL Pro-Choice America PAC announced its endorsement in the campaigns of three members of the US House of Representatives: Representatives Julia Brownley (CA-26), Pete Aguilar (CA-31), and Raul Ruiz, M.D. (CA-36). These Representatives have been consistent and steadfast allies of reproductive choice in Congress and have helped to lead the fight against Republican efforts to defund Planned Parenthood and roll-back Americans’ access to abortion.
“Representatives Julia Brownley, Pete Aguilar, and Raul Ruiz have consistently stood up to protect and defend Americans’ reproductive freedom. Their strong records in defense of women’s rights are a reflection of their pro-choice values and NARAL is proud to stand with them as they seek reelection,” said Sasha Bruce, senior vice president for campaigns and strategies of NARAL Pro-Choice America. “These three candidates have proven time and again that they are willing to fight for a woman’s right to make her own decisions when it comes to abortion and reproductive care. At a time when abortion access is increasingly under attack, whether in the courts or the halls of Congress, we need allies like Reps. Brownley, Aguilar, and Ruiz fighting for our values in Washington.”
“Representatives Brownely, Aguilar, and Ruiz are strong allies for pro-choice values here in California,” said Amy Everitt, state director of NARAL Pro-Choice California. “They recognize that defending access to reproductive care reflects the values of Californians, and we are proud to stand with them and support their campaigns for Congress.”
Reps. Brownley, Aguilar, and Ruiz have been steadfast allies in the fight for our reproductive freedom as reliable allies in the U.S. House of Representatives, with each maintaining a perfect pro-choice voting record during their time in Congress. All three Representatives have opposed partisan efforts to smear Planned Parenthood and voted against continued efforts to defund Planned Parenthood and other reproductive health facilities across the country. Rep. Brownley recently urged President Obama to support the reproductive health needs of women and girls in conflict zones by removing unnecessary barriers safe abortion access. As a member of the House Pro-Choice Caucus, Rep. Aguilar has stood up for women’s rights by supporting a plan to give low-income, military, and other women in federal health programs equal access to abortion coverage. He has also pushed to keep state and local governments from restricting access to abortion services. Rep. Ruiz has used his background as an emergency room physician to advocate for comprehensive health care that includes reproductive health.
