NARAL Pro-Choice America PAC today endorsed former Maine State Senator Emily Cain in her campaign for Congress. Cain is challenging anti-choice incumbent Rep. Bruce Poliquin in Maine’s 2nd congressional district.
“We are proud to support Emily Cain’s campaign for Congress as she stands up for Maine women and their ability to make their own life decisions. Emily Cain will defend our reproductive freedom and help lead the fight against efforts to shut down Planned Parenthood and restrict access to abortion,” said Ilyse Hogue, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America. “Emily Cain has been and will continue to be a fierce advocate for Maine families and for the reproductive freedom of all Americans.”
“Mainers understand that personal freedom is fundamental to our lives. I’m honored to receive the endorsement of NARAL, and to stand with them in the fight to defend our reproductive freedom,” said Emily Cain. “I will always fight for our freedom to control our own choices, bodies, and privacy.”
Cain has defended reproductive freedom during her service in the Maine legislature, maintaining a perfect pro-choice voting record. She has consistently voted to protect access to safe and legal abortion, support funding for family planning, and make sure our children receive medically accurate sex education at school.
Her opponent, incumbent Rep. Bruce Poliquin, has consistently sought to undermine the reproductive freedom of all Mainers. He has repeatedly voted to defund Planned Parenthood and to limit Maine women’s access to abortion. He has cast votes to ban abortion nationwide at 20 weeks of pregnancy, to ban abortion coverage in state-health insurance exchanges, and to deny school districts funding if they provide information about abortion. His anti-choice record garnered him a zero percent rating in NARAL’s annual rating of members of Congress.
