National anti-choice group endorses Sen. Toomey

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 21, 2016

Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA) this week picked up the endorsement of a right-wing anti-choice group that seeks to overturn Roe v. Wade and ban abortion nationwide. The group, Susan B. Anthony List, rarely issues an endorsement, preferring to confer its stamp of approval on only a few of the most anti-choice leaders across the country. Sen. Toomey earned their endorsement because of his extreme anti-choice position, which includes a call to ban abortion and jail doctors who provide women with abortion care.

“The fact that Sen. Toomey nabbed the Seal of Approval from a group dedicated to outlawing abortion nationwide tells you everything you need to know about his backward agenda,” said James Owens, states communications director for NARAL Pro-Choice America. “Instead of focusing on policies that lift families up, Sen. Toomey spends his time in Washington trying to drag women down. If it wasn’t obvious enough already, this endorsement makes it pellucidly clear that Sen. Toomey doesn’t share the priorities of Pennsylvania’s hardworking families.”

NARAL recently called-out Sen. Toomey with its #TrumpSquadGoals campaign, linking the billionaire’s divisive agenda with Toomey’s backward ideology.

In Washington, Sen. Toomey has also pushed an extreme, anti-woman agenda and has said he would ban abortion and jail doctors who provide abortion. Sen. Toomey has repeatedly voted to restrict access to abortion, including voting multiple times to defund Planned Parenthood and ban abortion nationwide after 20 weeks of pregnancy with no exceptions for rape, incest, or to protect a woman’s health. His anti-choice views go beyond restricting access to abortion: he has even voted to allow bosses to block their employees’ birth control coverage.
