Johnson (MI-01) and Driskell (MI-07) Earn Endorsement of Nation’s Leading Pro-Choice Advocacy Group
NARAL Pro-Choice America PAC today announced its endorsement of pro-choice leaders Lon Johnson (MI-01) and Gretchen Driskell (MI-07) in their campaigns for Congress. These endorsements reflect Johnson and Driskell’s dedication to protecting and advancing our reproductive freedom and standing up to attempts by Republican congressional leaders to ban abortion and restrict access to birth control.
“NARAL is proud to support the campaigns of two outstanding leaders, Gretchen Driskell and Lon Johnson,” said Joel Foster, NARAL Pro-Choice America’s national political director. “Michigan families want their leaders focused on creating jobs, not on banning abortion, defunding Planned Parenthood, and making birth control more expensive. Those aren’t the priorities of hardworking Michiganders, yet that’s exactly what congressional Republicans have been focused on. That’s why we need a new generation of leaders like Gretchen Driskell and Lon Johnson who will fight for Americans’ reproductive freedom and stand up to the out-of-touch politicians who want to limit women’s health care options. Gretchen Driskell’s opponent, anti-choice incumbent Rep. Tim Walberg, has spent his career working to roll back Americans’ reproductive freedom. His extreme, anti-choice voting record includes voting to ban abortion at 20 weeks of pregnancy, discriminating against low-income women who seek abortion care, and casting repeated votes to defund Planned Parenthood. Lon Johnson’s opponent, Republican Jack Bergman, has been vocal about his out-of-touch, anti-choice views and wouldn’t fight to defend Michigan families’ access to basic health care.
