NARAL Pro-Choice America President Ilyse Hogue issued the following statement following Hillary Clinton’s speech in Florida about the contrast voters face between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton on women’s rights:
“With this speech, Hillary has once again laid bare the stakes of this election. If you care about the future of women and families in this country, there is only one choice and that’s for Hillary Clinton. She has demonstrated consistently through this campaign that she believes equality—especially gender equality—is core to who we are as a country. She truly believes we are stronger together.
“Contrast that with Donald Trump who has spent his entire campaign and career belittling women. This man has bragged about sexually assaulting women, walked in on teenagers in changing rooms and jokes about dating little girls when they’re older. Donald Trump has shown two things consistently through this campaign: first, he understands nothing about what it means to be a woman—whether one facing unwanted advances, workplace discrimination, or a difficult decision about later-term abortion—and second, he has no interest in figuring it out. The only thing Donald Trump actually cares about is trying to make Donald Trump great again after this campaign.
“Hillary Clinton has shown up time and again to stand up for women’s rights, even when it’s not popular or politically advisable. She does it because she gets it. She knows that gender equality is part of the equation for a thriving nation. She knows that gender equality is impossible without reproductive freedom. She has listened to the difficult stories of real women facing real problems—in pregnancy and in parenting—and she has an actual, implementable policy plan to address those problems. She’s trustworthy; she’s experienced; she will move us forward; and she genuinely cares.
“In the final days of the campaign, it’s critical to consider what this means for all of us if Trump is elected president. If his horrifying misogyny is turned loose in the Oval Office, women will bear the misfortune. Choosing Trump would tell over half United States population that our progress doesn’t matter, our prospects don’t matter, and that we can sit down and shut up. This is not a responsible message to send to our daughters or our sons.
“The choice for voters who want to move our country forward, extend respect and dignity to every one regardless of gender, ethnicity or financial status is clear: Hillary Clinton must be our next president.”
