Following Catherine Cortez Masto’s victory in Nevada’s U.S. Senate race, NARAL Pro-Choice America President Ilyse Hogue and NARAL Pro-Choice Nevada State Director Caroline Mello Roberson released the following statements:
“Catherine Cortez Masto’s victory is a huge win for Nevada families. NARAL is proud to have backed her campaign to represent Nevada families and to make history as the first Latina to serve in the U.S. Senate,” said Ilyse Hogue, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America. “We know she will be a strong ally in the fight to protect and expand the reproductive freedom of all Americans. That’s why NARAL members knocked on thousands of doors to support Catherine’s campaign. Nevada’s pro-choice majority turned out to support her campaign, and we couldn’t be happier to congratulate Senator-elect Catherine Cortez Masto.”

Seven in 10 Nevadans support keeping abortion legal and accessible. In Catherine, the pro-choice majority in Nevada has found a leader who will trust women to our own reproductive health care decisions.”

As Nevada Attorney General, Catherine Cortez Masto has a strong record of standing up for Nevada families and has fought against attacks on women’s constitutional right to safe and legal abortion. Her opponent, Congressman Joe Heck, wanted to outlaw abortion, overturn Roe v. Wade, and defund Planned Parenthood. That’s why NARAL placed ads calling out Rep. Heck’s out-of-touch agenda which ran all the way through Election Day.
