NARAL statement on Gorsuch comments

February 8, 2017

With reports that Judge Neil Gorsuch is attempting to distance himself from President Trump’s dangerous comments about the federal judiciary, Kaylie Hanson Long, NARAL Pro-Choice America’s National Communications Director, issued the following statement:

“All Americans should be disheartened and demoralized by Donald Trump’s behavior and comments on an hourly basis. But those feelings about our erratic, unhinged president don’t alone qualify you to receive a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court. We need someone who will defend all of our constitutional freedoms, not someone like Neil Gorsuch, whose anti-choice record undermines women’s autonomy and poses a direct threat to the future of Roe v. Wade. Americans shouldn’t confuse a very normal reaction to an abnormal president with qualifications to sit on our nation’s highest court.”

NARAL Pro-Choice America and its network of state affiliates are dedicated to protecting and expanding reproductive freedom for all Americans. NARAL works to guarantee that every woman has the right to make personal decisions regarding the full range of reproductive choices, including preventing unintended pregnancy, bearing healthy children, and choosing legal abortion. In recognition of its work defending our constitutional right to choose, Fortune Magazine described NARAL as “one of the top 10 advocacy groups in America.”

Everyone should be able to decide if, when, how, and with whom they start or grow a family.
