NARAL: No Endorsement for Any Senator Who Supports Trump’s Nominee

Decision Comes After Announcement That Sens. Heitkamp, Manchin Will Support Trump’s Anti-Choice Pick for the Supreme Court

As senators announce their positions on President Trump’s nominee for the Supreme Court and Sens. Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND) and Joe Manchin (D-WV) came out in support of Judge Gorsuch, NARAL Pro-Choice America announced that it would not endorse anyone who supports Gorsuch when they next seek re-election. NARAL President Ilyse Hogue release the following statement:

“President Trump’s pick for the Supreme Court threatens our most basic rights with a cruel ideology that puts powerful interests over everyday people. NARAL is disappointed that Sens. Heitkamp and Manchin would support cementing President Trump’s reckless agenda with a lifetime appointment to our nation’s highest court, especially while he is under investigation for collusion with Russia. 

Backed by our 1.2 million members, NARAL cannot support elected officials who threaten to take away our most basic rights. If our leaders won’t stand up when it matters the most, then we can’t ask our members to stand with them. Because of this, NARAL will not endorse Sen. Heitkamp, Sen. Manchin, or any other senator who supports this dangerous nominee when they next seek re-election.”
