Progressive Groups: No Lifetime Appointments by President Under Investigation

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 16, 2017

Today, a group of progressive grassroots organizations including NARAL Pro-Choice America, End Citizens United, Every Voice, Ultraviolet, and Center for American Progress Action Fund called on the U.S. Senate to halt lifetime appointments following Donald Trump’s acknowledgement that he is under investigation for obstruction of justice.

“As Donald Trump himself acknowledged this morning, he is now under a federal criminal investigation. Given the dark and possibly criminal cloud swirling around him and his entire administration, he should not be allowed to make any lifetime appointments until the investigation is complete. These justices will be charged with making decisions on a host of issues, such as reproductive freedom, LGBTQ rights, and money in politics that will impact everyday Americans for generations to come. We urge the Senate to halt all lifetime appointments immediately until the investigation has concluded.”

NARAL Pro-Choice America has led progressive grassroots organizations in opposition to judicial nominees, including Neil Gorusch, whose records demonstrate they will not fight for the constitutional rights of everyday Americans.

NARAL Pro-Choice America and its network of state affiliates are dedicated to protecting and expanding reproductive freedom for all Americans. NARAL works to guarantee that every woman has the right to make personal decisions regarding the full range of reproductive choices, including preventing unintended pregnancy, bearing healthy children, and choosing legal abortion. In recognition of its work defending our constitutional right to choose, Fortune Magazine described NARAL as “one of the top 10 advocacy groups in America.”
