NARAL Launches Six-Figure Push Calling on Senate to Reject John Bush Nomination

Ads Target Senate Judiciary Republicans, Highlight Bush’s Record As Anonymous Blogger; Ted Cruz Called “Spineless” In Unique Ad Buy

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NARAL Pro-Choice America today launched a six-figure push calling on members of the Senate Judiciary Committee to reject the nomination of John Bush, a Kentucky lawyer and shady anonymous blogger, for the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.

The push includes two new ads, which will run in the home states of Senate Judiciary members in Arizona, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Carolina, and Texas, as well as DC. The investment is part of NARAL’s efforts to mobilize its 1.2 million member-activists to oppose the controversial nominee, and includes directing phone calls to Senate offices to oppose the nomination .

“The American people deserve to know that the Trump administration is filling our nation’s court system with unqualified candidates while they think no one is looking,” said Sasha Bruce, senior vice president of campaigns and strategy at NARAL Pro-Choice America. “John Bush was handpicked by President Trump for a lifetime appointment because they share the same anti-woman, anti-LGBTQ worldview. If John Bush makes it to the federal courts, his dangerous agenda could affect our rights for decades, spelling disaster for generations of Americans.”

The ads highlight Bush’s troubling record as an anonymous blogger for a right-wing website and as a lawyer who worked with a right-wing group with a troubling record of pushing an anti-choice agenda. The buy includes one ad specifically calling out Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) for his failure to oppose the divisive blogger-turned-nominee, who taunted Cruz as a “sore loser” in one of his blog posts.

NARAL Pro-Choice America and its network of state affiliates are dedicated to protecting and expanding reproductive freedom for all Americans. NARAL works to guarantee that every woman has the right to make personal decisions regarding the full range of reproductive choices, including preventing unintended pregnancy, bearing healthy children, and choosing legal abortion. In recognition of its work defending our constitutional right to choose, Fortune Magazine described NARAL as “one of the top 10 advocacy groups in America.”
