(Washington, D.C.) — In response to reports that Rep. Brady and Sen. Hatch plan to introduce legislation to weaken the Affordable Care Act, NARAL Senior Vice President for Campaigns and Strategy Sasha Bruce issued the following statement:
“The anti-choice GOP has tried time and time again to push their so-called ‘pro-life’ agenda with attempts to repeal the ACA, and, even though previous attempts failed miserably, it seems like they are up to their old tricks yet again. The anti-choice GOP is so desperate for a win that Kevin Brady and Orrin Hatch are shamefully trying to appease a fringe base that believes women cannot make their own decisions about their healthcare, families, and lives. The American people have made it clear at every turn—by rallying in the streets, calling Members of Congress, and making our voices heard—that our healthcare, including our reproductive rights, are not negotiable; we reject this latest attempt to rob us of those rights.”
NARAL Pro-Choice America and its network of state affiliates are dedicated to protecting and expanding reproductive freedom for all Americans. NARAL works to guarantee that every woman has the right to make personal decisions regarding the full range of reproductive choices, including preventing unintended pregnancy, bearing healthy children, and choosing legal abortion. In recognition of its work defending our constitutional right to choose, Fortune Magazine described NARAL as “one of the top 10 advocacy groups in America.”
