FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
November 2, 2017
In the final days before the election in State Senate District 45, NARAL Pro-Choice America and NARAL Pro-Choice Washington are doubling down on their efforts to get out the vote to elect pro-choice champion, Manka Dhingra. NARAL hit the ground early to support Manka’s campaign, spending over six figures on the race that could flip control of the upper chamber. NARAL members and volunteers from right here in the 45th district have been knocking doors, making phone calls, and talking with their neighbors about Manka’s record of standing up for women and families.
“The stakes in this race couldn’t be higher. Manka Dhingra has spent years fighting for the health and safety of women right here in Eastside while Jinyoung Englund tied herself to fringe GOP groups and bashed women for seeking reproductive healthcare as well as the doctors who provide it,” said Tiffany Hankins, executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice Washington. “There’s a reason why all eyes are on Washington right now. This state senate race could flip the balance in the upper chamber, finally ensuring that the rights and wellbeing of women and our families are no longer relegated to the back burner. NARAL members across Washington are proud to stand with Mankha Dhingra and will be working until the clock runs out to support her campaign.”
Since Day One, NARAL has heavily invested to support Manka Dhingra’s campaign, spending more than $100,000 in the race and reaching more than 26,000 voters. WA-45 supported Hillary Clinton with an overwhelming 65% of the vote, yet has been represented by a Republican in the state senate. In total, NARAl members and volunteers have knocked a total of 6,553 doors and made 3,732 phone calls to voters. In addition to knocking doors and holding phone banks, NARAL sent a series of hard-hitting mail pieces to show voters the contrast between pro-choice champion Manka Dhingra and her opponent who has stood with fringe groups to oppose a woman’s right to choose.
