(Washington, D.C.) — After the House of Representatives voted to pass their devastating tax plan, along with ideological personhood language tucked into a provision, NARAL Pro-Choice America National Communications Director Kaylie Hanson Long issued the following statement:
“After failing over and over to pass any significant legislation and deliver on promises made to their increasingly far-right base, the GOP is using the tax code as a vehicle to push their social agenda. In a bill that is already devastating for working families, this provision is a backdoor way to ban abortion outright, and does nothing more than further the GOP’s obsession with robbing women of our reproductive rights. By including dangerous personhood language in the tax bill, the GOP is attempting to mislead Americans at the expense of sound fiscal policy. Now, all eyes are on the Senate.”
