NARAL: There is no Reproductive Freedom Without Net Neutrality

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
December 12, 2017

As the Federal Communications Commission prepares for a vote on net neutrality, NARAL Pro-Choice America National Communications Director Kaylie Hanson Long issued the following statement:

“There is no reproductive freedom without net neutrality. Imagine a world where a woman searching the Internet can’t readily find information on how to access an abortion. Dismantling net neutrality will give wealthy, conservative, anti-choice groups an upper hand on the Internet. Allowing anti-choice groups to pay for outsized influence in order to spread their out-of-touch agenda poses a clear and present threat to women’s access to accurate information and care.

“In a world where powerful brands can pay to block information, women’s voices could be marginalized even further. A lack of net neutrality would prove devastating for progressive organizers, activists, and for our right to access vital, accurate reproductive health information. But we won’t give them the upper hand, and that’s why NARAL will continue organizing and mobilizing in defense of reproductive freedom and equal access to information.”

NARAL Pro-Choice America and its network of state affiliates are dedicated to protecting and expanding reproductive freedom for all Americans. NARAL works to guarantee that every woman has the right to make personal decisions regarding the full range of reproductive choices, including preventing unintended pregnancy, bearing healthy children, and choosing legal abortion. In recognition of its work defending our constitutional right to choose, Fortune Magazine described NARAL as “one of the top 10 advocacy groups in America.”
