NARAL Pro-Choice America opposes anti-choice nominees Kyle Duncan, David Stras, Mark Norris, Matthew Kacsmaryk, and William Ray, who received a confirmation vote in the Senate Judiciary Committee today. In order to carry out their obsession with rolling back reproductive rights, Donald Trump and the anti-choice GOP are stacking the courts against women and families. As the latest anti-choice nominees for lifetime appointments, Duncan, Stras, Norris, Kacsmaryk, and Ray will shape this country in their out-of-touch image for decades to come.

Kyle Duncan is the definition of a partisan nominee. He was the head attorney for Hobby Lobby’s notorious crusade to put bosses in charge of birth control. In this case, he enabled employers to deny their employees coverage of contraception because of their own personal beliefs.

David Stras is affiliated with the Federalist Society, a well-known anti-choice group. He is also included on President Trump’s list of potential Supreme Court nominees—a list of individuals President Trump promised would overturn Roe v. Wade “automatically.”

Mark Norris has been endorsed by the Tennessee Right to Life, a well-known anti-choice group. During his time in Tennessee’s state legislature, Norris repeatedly voted for attacks on reproductive freedom and even co-sponsored a resolution to amend Tennessee’s constitution to ensure that nothing in it protects the right to abortion.

Matthew Kacsmaryk represented several religious corporations that opposed the Affordable Care Act’s contraceptive-coverage policy, hoping he could “protect innocent life from conception to natural death” and “defend unborn human life.”

William Ray made clear that one of his priorities was to restrict access to abortion care when he was a state senator.  He even voted in favor of a bill that criminalizes certain abortion services and carries up to a five-year prison sentence for abortion care providers.

NARAL Pro-Choice America and its network of state affiliates are dedicated to protecting and expanding reproductive freedom for all Americans. NARAL works to guarantee that every woman has the right to make personal decisions regarding the full range of reproductive choices, including preventing unintended pregnancy, bearing healthy children, and choosing legal abortion. In recognition of its work defending our constitutional right to choose, Fortune Magazine described NARAL as “one of the top 10 advocacy groups in America.”
