NARAL Pro-Choice America on the Women’s Marches Across the Country

(Washington, DC) — As cities across the country march in celebration of the one year anniversary since the Women’s March, NARAL Pro-Choice America President Ilyse Hogue issued the following statement:

“One year ago, this country witnessed the largest protest movement in our nation’s history, powered by women of all backgrounds with a shared recognition of women’s rights as human rights. NARAL members maintained and nurtured that energy and spent 2017 building a beautiful, proactive resistance where we rejected Donald Trump’s agenda, and simultaneously increased access to reproductive health in states like Nevada, Illinois, and Oregon. This year, women will dig deep again and make incredible strides. 

“This weekend’s anniversary marches represent the very real power that has already seen tremendous success in 2017 at ballot boxes in red, purple, and blue states, where candidates dedicated to reproductive rights and gender equality are now holding the seats of power. There’s still plenty of work to be done, and we’re taking this fight all the way through 2018, a crucial year to stopping the forces that want nothing more than to roll back progress. But we can do it together, and we will rise to the occasion once again.”
