NARAL Pro-Choice America today announced its endorsement of Ann Kirkpatrick in Arizona’s 2nd Congressional District. The seat is currently held by an anti-choice Republican and the district is considered a swing district.
“We need champions for reproductive freedom like Ann Kirkpatrick in Congress,” said Ilyse Hogue, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America. “Ann’s priorities reflect the priorities of Arizona women and families. We are proud to endorse her campaign for Congress and see her elected to a new pro-choice majority in the House of Representatives.”
“I am humbled to earn the support of NARAL,” said Kirkpatrick. “I have fought to protect reproductive rights in Congress and in Arizona’s legislature, and more than ever, today we need leaders in Congress to reject the reckless Republican attacks on women’s health. I stand with NARAL and its 1.2 million members in saying no more trying to defund women’s healthcare, no more trying to take away birth control, and no more attacks on women’s right to choose.”
Kirkpatrick was born and raised in rural Arizona. She grew up on an Apache reservation, moved to Tucson to get her college education, and has performed a lifetime of service for Arizona families. She also worked as a prosecutor, starting her career in the Pima County Attorney’s office, before going on to serve in Congress. She had 100% ratings from NARAL during her previous time in the House, and has been a key figure in the fight to protect Planned Parenthood from the GOP’s dangerous attacks.
