NARAL Pro-Choice America congratulates endorsed candidates Veronica Escobar (TX-16) and Sylvia Garcia (TX-29) for their primary victories in Texas last night. NARAL Pro-Choice America endorsed Escobar and Garcia because of their proven track records of advocating for women’s rights and reproductive freedom.
“We need Members of Congress who will stand up for what is right and fight back against Trump’s anti-choice, anti-woman agenda,” said Ilyse Hogue, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America. “That is exactly what Veronica and Sylvia will do and we couldn’t be more excited to congratulate them on last night’s victories. Supporting our current and future pro-choice champions is key to establishing a pro-choice majority in the House of Representatives. We’ll work hard to get them elected in November.”
Escobar is an El Paso County judge running for the seat being vacated by Congressman Beto O’Rourke, and Garcia is a member of the Texas State Senate running for a seat in Houston left open because of Congressman Gene Green’s retirement.
NARAL Pro-Choice America and its network of state affiliates are dedicated to protecting and expanding reproductive freedom for all Americans. NARAL works to guarantee that every woman has the right to make personal decisions regarding the full range of reproductive choices, including preventing unintended pregnancy, bearing healthy children, and choosing legal abortion. In recognition of its work defending our constitutional right to choose, Fortune Magazine described NARAL as “one of the top 10 advocacy groups in America.”
