NARAL Pro-Choice America Endorses Elissa Slotkin for Congress

NARAL Pro-Choice America today announced its endorsement of Elissa Slotkin in Michigan’s 8th Congressional District. The seat is currently held by an anti-choice Republican.

“We need fighters for reproductive freedom like Elissa Slotkin in Congress,” said Ilyse Hogue, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America. “Her commitment to protecting women’s healthcare is welcome in a Republican Congress known for its hostility toward affordable and accessible care for all. We are proud to endorse her for Congress, and we’ll fight hard to see her elected.”

“I’m running for office because I believe that our leaders in Congress have forgotten that they are public servants first – and putting the public first means ensuring that women have every opportunity to chart their own paths, advance in their careers, and provide for their families,” said Slotkin. “I do not believe politicians in Washington should get to dictate what anyone chooses to do with their body. Women should have the freedom to decide if, when, and with whom to start a family. That’s why I’m pleased to have the endorsement of NARAL Pro-Choice America, an organization fighting to defend those very rights and opportunities in a time when they are under attack.”

Slotkin has expertise in national security, intelligence, and national defense, serving as Acting Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs under the Obama Administration. She is a third-generation Michigander who spent her early life on a farm in Holly, Michigan. Her great-grandfather arrived on Ellis Island and eventually founded the family meat business Hygrade Foods (inventor of Ballpark Franks), establishing its Detroit headquarters in 1949.
