Today, NARAL members joined fellow reproductive rights organizations in delivering 250,000 petitions to the Department of Health and Human Services demanding Scott Lloyd be fired from his position as head of the Office of Refugee Resettlement. NARAL Pro-Choice America National Communications Director Kaylie Hanson Long issued the following statement in response:

“We’ve been saying this for months, and our calls will continue until Scott Lloyd is gone. With every bit of new information, we get further confirmation that Lloyd is obsessed with blocking women from accessing their right to abortion care, even if it means putting his other duties to the side. It’s clear that he is abusing his position of power to force his personal agenda onto the women he is charged with protecting. Not only is that inappropriate, it’s despicable. NARAL members will not stand for this, and as long as Scott Lloyd is in power, we will fight back.”

Lloyd personally visited young women in his care to dissuade them from accessing abortion. He also told organizations not to mention abortion to the young women in his care. He also brought pregnant young women to fake women’s health centers—which often have no medical staff and deceive women by lying about medical facts.

NARAL has repeatedly called for Scott Lloyd to step down or be removed from office. NARAL is joined by Rep. Jan Schakowsky (IL-09), Rep. Rosa DeLauro (CT-03), All* Above All, National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health, Advocates For Youth, Center for American Progress Action Fund, Center for Reproductive Rights, CREDO Action, Feminist Majority Foundation, In Our Own Voice, National Black Women’s Reproductive Justice Agenda, Medical Students for Choice, National Abortion Federation, National Asian Pacific American Women Forum, NARAL Pro-Choice America, National Council of Jewish Women, National Institute for Reproductive Health, National LGBTQ Task Force, National Network of Abortion Funds, National Partnership for Women and Families, National Women’s Law Center, Physicians for Reproductive Health, Planned Parenthood Action Fund, People For the American Way, the Population Institute, Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice, and URGE, in calling for Lloyd’s resignation.

NARAL Pro-Choice America and its network of state affiliates are dedicated to protecting and expanding reproductive freedom for all Americans. NARAL works to guarantee that every woman has the right to make personal decisions regarding the full range of reproductive choices, including preventing unintended pregnancy, bearing healthy children, and choosing legal abortion. In recognition of its work defending our constitutional right to choose, Fortune Magazine described NARAL as “one of the top 10 advocacy groups in America.”
