Today, Senator Heidi Heitkamp said she plans to support Mike Pompeo for Secretary of State, making her the first and only Democrat to date to do so. In response, NARAL Pro-Choice America Political Director Nicole Brener-Schmitz issued the following statement:
“A vote in favor of Mike Pompeo is simply irreconcilable with being a true champion for women and girls. Pompeo stands for the opposite of the values that we should espouse and the policies that we must implement both at home and abroad in the name of women’s rights, including reproductive freedom. We are very disappointed in Senator Heitkamp’s announcement today.”
