Incumbent for New York’s 16th Congressional District Earns Endorsement from Nation’s Leading Pro-Choice Advocacy Group

NARAL Pro-Choice America today announced its endorsement of Eliot Engel on his bid to represent New York’s 16th Congressional District.
“Congressman Engel is a fighter for New York women and families, and we are proud to endorse him,” said Ilyse Hogue, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America. “He has always been a steadfast voice for our rights and we know we can count on him to keep up the fight against the GOP’s backwards agenda. We need advocates like Congressman Engel who will prioritize reproductive freedom and we look forward to helping him get elected.”
“I am so honored to receive the endorsement of NARAL Pro-Choice America, a leader in the fight to protect and promote women’s health and rights,” said Engel. “I believe that Members of Congress should not be deciding what is best for a woman’s health: she and her doctor should. Yet, in recent years, we have seen relentless attacks from Republicans set on turning back the clock in ways that will be incredibly harmful to women. Under the Trump Administration, those attacks have only grown more ruthless.
“I have unfailingly condemned these policies, and fought to take us forward instead of backward,” Engel continued. “It is time for us to dismantle barriers to comprehensive health care, ensure evidence always comes before ideology when making policy, and end the bans that take decision-making power from women and their trusted providers.”
Eliot Engel has spent his career defending women’s access to comprehensive reproductive health care. Engel has consistently spoken out against dangerous Trump Administration policies, like rolling back coverage for contraception and undermining the Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program. As a member of the House Pro-Choice Caucus, pro-choice values have guided his work during his time in Congress.
