NARAL Pro-Choice America today announced its endorsement of Mary Gay Scanlon in Pennsylvania’s 5th Congressional district.
“We need members of Congress like Mary Gay Scanlon who will be unapologetic advocates for women and families across Pennsylvania,” said Ilyse Hogue, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America. “Mary Gay has worked to empower women her whole career, and we’re proud to endorse her campaign to bring leadership to Washington.”
“Women’s reproductive rights have continuously been on the legislative chopping block because all too often there are not enough elected women making decisions,” said Scanlon. “We must elect more women who will protect reproductive rights all across the country and especially here in Pennsylvania. I am proud to have NARAL’s endorsement and am committed to continue working to elect pro-choice women and will not back down from any challenge to protect our reproductive rights.”
Mary Gay Scanlon has been fighting for women since the beginning of her career when she fought for equal access to quality education at the Education Law Center of Pennsylvania and as the President of the School Board. She did pro bono work for the U.S. Women’s Hockey and Soccer teams as they fought for equal pay in 2017. Scanlon has made reproductive health a focus of her campaign, vowing to fight to expand access to birth control and abortions and make them more affordable.
