RENO – In a press conference this evening, NARAL Pro-Choice America and NARAL Pro-Choice Nevada announced their endorsement of Steve Sisolak in his campaign for Governor of Nevada. NARAL Political Director, Nicole Brener-Schmitz and NARAL Pro-Choice Nevada State Director, Caroline Mello Roberson joined Sisolak on stage and praised his commitment to fighting to protect and expand women’s reproductive health care across the state. NARAL has been a leading voice on condemning Adam Laxalt who is known to be one of the most extreme public actors in the country when it comes to reproductive rights.
“Women and families across Nevada have been clear: politicians have no business telling them what to do with their own bodies. But Adam Laxalt has ignored Nevadans, instead pushing his own extreme ideology on women and families, never missing an opportunity to erode their basic rights,” said NARAL Political Director, Nicole Brener-Schmitz. “That’s why now more than ever we need leadership from unapologetic, pro-choice champions like Steve Sisolak. We could not be more proud to be here in Nevada with our strong membership to support Steve and we look forward to fighting tooth and nail to help him win in November.”

But our message is clear: Nevadans won’t stand for Adam Laxalt’s obsession with attacking our rights,” said NARAL Pro-Choice Nevada State Director, Caroline Mello Roberson. “And that is exactly why we are proud to endorse someone who trusts women and families to make their own healthcare decisions, Steve Sisolak. We know the type of leadership that Steve Sisolak will bring to the Governor’s mansion. Our 38,000 plus members are ready to knock doors, make calls, and do whatever it takes to make sure that come November, Steve Sisolak is named the next Governor of Nevada.”

As governor, I will make sure that stops here in Nevada,” said Steve Sisolak. “I believe a woman’s health care decisions are personal and should be made with her doctor, not dictated by a political agenda. Adam Laxalt wants to roll back the clock on women’s reproductive rights. As governor, I won’t let that happen. I will always defend a woman’s right to choose and will work alongside stakeholders like NARAL to ensure all Nevada women have access to affordable, comprehensive reproductive care.”

Steve Sisolak is a former University Regent and is the chairman of the Clark County Commission. At the NARAL Nevada Reproductive Freedom Forum, Sisolak reaffirmed his support for comprehensive sex education, a woman’s right to choose, and paid family leave. Sisolak will be running against Adam Laxalt, the current AG, who is not only verbally anti-choice, but actively tries to undermine women’s health in the state. Laxalt also recently signed onto two amicus briefs as Attorney General (the only amicus briefs his office has filed in the past 5 months) aimed at restricting access to reproductive healthcare including abortion. Sisolak has pledged to fight to protect and expand the rights of Nevada women and families throughout his campaign, and once he becomes Governor.
