After the Senate Judiciary Committee held a hearing on the nomination of anti-choice judicial nominee Stephen Clark to the Eastern District of Missouri, NARAL Pro-Choice America Vice President Adrienne Kimmell issued the following statement:
“Donald Trump and the GOP are pushing through judicial nominees that will carry out their brutal ideology at every level of our judiciary. Stephen Clark is no exception. Clark has spent his legal career working against reproductive freedom—including access to abortion and contraception. Clark even inaccurately and irresponsibly used misinformation to pedal the myth that birth control is dangerous to women’s health—a lie routinely disproved by medical professionals and scientific evidence. Clark’s record indicates he will use his position of influence to carry out an anti-choice agenda, and we urge the Senate to reject this nominee.”
Stephen Clark worked closely with well-known anti-choice activists on a brief opposing the ACA’s contraceptive-coverage policy. He has also represented anti-choice groups in various lawsuits and is active in anti-choice-activist Leonard Leo’s Federalist Society.
