After the Senate voted to confirm anti-choice judge Britt Grant to the U.S. Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, NARAL Pro-Choice America Vice President Adrienne Kimmell issued the following statement:

“The confirmation of Britt Grant represents a clear and present danger to reproductive freedom. The lower courts play a vital role in protecting our essential rights, and it is shameful that the Senate turned its back on women and families by confirming Grant this afternoon. Grant’s record proves she is the latest in a long line of Trump’s biased and dangerous nominees that will do the bidding of anti-choice extremists. As Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court leaves Roehanging in the balance like never before, Grant’s confirmation should sound the alarm bells for anyone worried about protecting our most fundamental freedoms.”

Britt Grant clerked for Brett Kavanaugh on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. She also defended an extreme Georgia law that bans abortion without an adequate exception to protect women’s health or for cases in which pregnancy was the result of rape or incest. She was also included on President Trump’s list of potential Supreme Court nominees, a list of individuals Trump promised would overturn Roe v. Wade “automatically.”
