In a victory for Missouri women and families, NARAL Pro-Choice America congratulated pro-choice candidate Cort VanOstran for winning his primary in Missouri’s 2nd Congressional District.
“Cort VanOstran is committed to Missouri women and families,” said Alison Dreith, Executive Director of NARAL Pro-Choice Missouri, “He represents the best of Missouri in this historically-important election.”
“Cort VanOstran is the kind of fighter women in Missouri deserve,” said NARAL Pro-Choice America Political Director, Nicole Brener-Schmitz. “We know he will continue fighting for reproductive freedom in a state where strong pro-choice leadership is so needed. We look forward to supporting him on November 6th.”
Cort VanOstran decided to run for Congress after watching his Congresswoman vote to strip 24 million people of their healthcare plans in May 2017. The fight hit close to home because his own mother – who raised him as a single mom in rural Missouri – was insured with a plan she purchased through the Missouri Affordable Care Act Exchange in the years leading up to her death from breast cancer. His mom’s incredible example taught him a lot about strong women, and about people’s ability to rise above difficult circumstances.
