In a victory for Minnesota women and families, NARAL Pro-Choice America congratulated pro-choice champions who won their primaries including Tina Smith, Dan Feehan (MN-01), Angie Craig (MN-02) and Dean Phillips (MN-03).

“With Donald Trump and the GOP’s obsession with attacking our reproductive healthcare, now more than ever, we need champions like Tina Smith, Dan Feehan, Angie Craig and Dean Phillips in Congress to stand up and put Minnesota women and families first,” said NARAL Pro-Choice America Political Director Nicole Brener-Schmitz. “We are proud to stand with these pro-choice champions and we look forward to ensuring that they win on November 6th.”

“Now more than ever we need unapologetic leadership from representatives who aren’t afraid to stand up to Donald Trump and the GOP’s backwards agenda,” said NARAL Pro-Choice Minnesota  Executive Director, Andrea Ledger. “We know that Tina Smith, Dan Feehan, Angie Craig and Dean Phillips will serve as a voice for women and families in Washington and fight to make reproductive freedom a reality for all Minnesotans. We look forward to making sure that these pro-choice champions win in November.”

A former Lieutenant Governor for Minnesota, Tina Smith has fought for reproductive rights at both the state and local level. She served as the first vice president for external affairs for Planned Parenthood Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and remains a passionate advocate for Planned Parenthood and the millions of women it serves every year.

Dan Feehan served as an active duty soldier in Iraq. When he returned home, he began teaching in elementary and middle schools. Later, he served as an acting Assistant Secretary of Defense in the Pentagon under President Obama. Healthcare is a leading issue in his campaign and as a Congressman, Feehan will fight to ensure that reproductive healthcare is prioritized in the fight for healthcare and reproductive rights.

Angie Craig grew up in a working class family with a single mother, and has fought for women’s equality throughout her life. Craig’s professional experience has involved health policy, and she is an outspoken advocate for reproductive freedom. She and her wife Debra have four boys, three in college and one in high school.

A sixth generation Minnesotan, Dean Phillips has spent the past decades as a successful entrepreneur and businessman. While serving as a partner of Talenti Gelato, one of the largest gelato and best-selling ice cream brands in the country, Phillips took philanthropy and responsibility to his community very seriously.  He reaffirmed his commitment to the women and families of Minnesota by also serving as a board member for the Leadership Council of Worldwide Orphans, Allina Health, and his synagogue, Temple Israel.
