NARAL Maine Member asks Senator Collins to Listen to the Voices of Constituents, Not False Promises

Following a meeting with Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, Sen. Susan Collins said that Kavanaugh agrees Roe v. Wade is settled into law. Maine resident and NARAL member Mollie Barnathan issued the following statement:
“‘Settled law’ sounds like code words meant to fool voters like myself. Regardless of Kavanaugh’s false promises, evidence continues to pile up that he will be a sure-fire vote to gut Roe, criminalize abortion, and punish women. When Senator Collins says ‘settled law,’ she is choosing to ignore her constituents’ voices and instead use code words developed by conservative extremists. What’s settled can, and will be, unsettled if Kavanaugh is nominated to the Supreme Court. It’s the very reason he was nominated in the first place, and now our fundamental freedoms are at stake.
“As someone who has been in the position of ending two very wanted pregnancies for medical reasons, I know how important it is for women to have control of their own bodies and fundamental freedoms. I hope Senator Collins will keep Mainers like me in mind as she considers Kavanaugh’s nomination.”
Mollie Barnathan has previously written “I’m a mom who had an abortion. I know I made the most compassionate choice” in the Bangor Daily News.
