NARAL Pro-Choice America today announced its endorsement of Jahana Hayes in Connecticut’s 5th Congressional District.
“We are confident that Jahana Hayes will be a pro-choice leader for Connecticut’s 5th district,” said Ilyse Hogue, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America. “With Roe v. Wade in jeopardy and our rights under constant attack, women and families in Connecticut need a champion like Jahana Hayes in Congress. We are committed to ensuring that she wins this November.”
“Deciding when and if a woman should have children is a deeply personal choice that government has no business making for any woman,” said Hayes. “Maintaining this fundamental right ensures that women can make the best decision for themselves and their families, as it should be. I’m honored to receive the endorsement of NARAL, an organization that fights for this principle every day and also advocates for critical women’s health issues like birth control access and paid family medical leave.”
Jahana Hayes is a lifelong community advocate, dedicated to ensuring a woman’s right to choose. Hayes grew up in the Berkeley Heights housing project, where her family struggled with addiction. As a young mother, Hayes worked her way through community college. In 2016, she was named the 2016 Teacher of the Year by President Obama, and was encouraged by Senator Chris Murphy to run for Congress. She currently works as a professional development supervisor for the Waterbury Public Schools.
