After Senator Mitch McConnell filed cloture to send Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the full Senate floor, NARAL Pro-Choice America President Ilyse Hogue issued the following statement:

“Brett Kavanaugh is wholly unqualified for a seat on the Supreme Court, or really any Court in this country. The fact that Republicans are continuing with the charade of Kavanaugh’s confirmation lays bare their blatant and shameless disregard for the truth, the women who have come forward, and our democratic procedures.

“Brett Kavanaugh has been disqualified from the start. We’ve known from the start that he is hostile to women, and now there is a mountain of evidence that shows he has repeatedly lied under oath, and faces credible and disqualifying allegations of sexual assault. Every senator that votes to advance Kavanaugh’s confirmation in the face of this sham process will be turning their backs on the American people, the truth, and our democracy. With this vote being the pivotal moment before Kavanaugh heads to the full Senate, history, and women in particular, are watching and we will remember every single vote—today, tomorrow, in November, and forever.”

NARAL Pro-Choice America and its network of state affiliates are dedicated to protecting and expanding reproductive freedom for all Americans. NARAL works to guarantee that every woman has the right to make personal decisions regarding the full range of reproductive choices, including preventing unintended pregnancy, bearing healthy children, and choosing legal abortion. In recognition of its work defending our constitutional right to choose, Fortune Magazine described NARAL as “one of the top 10 advocacy groups in America.”

Everyone should be able to decide if, when, how, and with whom they start or grow a family.
