This weekend, NARAL Pro-Choice America announced its endorsement of Michigan Senator Gary Peters in his campaign for re-election at an event featuring Senator Peters and National Political Director for NARAL Pro-Choice America Nicole Brener-Schmitz.
“Right now, we need champions like Senator Gary Peters fighting for reproductive freedom in the Senate,” said Brener-Schmitz. “As extreme anti-choice Republicans like John James and Donald Trump continue to launch attack after attack on women and families, it’s critical to have strong advocates who will stand up for our fundamental freedoms in the face of these unprecedented threats. Senator Peters has always had our back in the fight for reproductive freedom, and we’re proud to endorse him for re-election.”
“I am honored to receive NARAL’s endorsement,” said Senator Peters. “At a time when women’s health care and reproductive freedoms are under attack in Michigan and around the country, it is more important than ever to have leaders who will fight to defend them. A woman has a fundamental right to make her own decisions about her own health care and politicians have no business getting in the way of that.”
Senator Gary Peters is a lifelong champion for reproductive freedom who has always been a strong ally, protecting the right to choose in the U.S. Senate and the House of Representatives. Peters was first elected to the Senate in 2014 after serving in the House for three terms where he earned a perfect 100% score from NARAL, a record he has maintained throughout his time as a senator. He voted against allowing businesses to deny health care coverage for contraception and opposed anti-choice Trump judicial nominees. Based on his strong track record fighting for Michigan women and families and reproductive freedom, NARAL is proud to endorse his campaign for re-election in 2020.
NARAL Pro-Choice America and its network of state affiliates and chapters are dedicated to protecting and expanding reproductive freedom for all. For more than 50 years, NARAL has worked to guarantee that every woman has the right to make personal decisions regarding the full range of reproductive choices, including preventing unintended pregnancy, bearing healthy children, and choosing legal abortion. Since 1969, NARAL has made history, grown to over 2 million members, and met the moments that have defined this fight with action, power and freedom. In recognition of its work defending our constitutional right to choose, Fortune Magazine described NARAL as “one of the top 10 advocacy groups in America.”
